Spirituality

Our spirituality is, in accordance with the spirit of the Gospels, based on the Rule of St. Benedict which calls us to prefer ¡®nothing to love of Christ¡¯ (cf. Rule 4, 21) and ¡® seek for only God¡¯ (Rule 58.7). Seeking God¡¯s glory in all works (cf. 1 Peter 4, 11; Rule 57, 9), we, in particular, strive to realize ¡®love of God revealed in the weakness of the Cross in our communal life, service and charitable works in the solidarity with the world (Constitution 1, 2).

Red Cross of our community¡¯s coat of arms reflects on the passion of the Lord Three mountains are the symbol of contemplative life. The Olive branch is an expression of our ministries rooted in the contemplative life

Spirituality of the Cross

Our community¡¯s spirituality of the Cross is rooted in the spirit of St. Bernardo Tolomei, founder of our congregation, who dedicated his life to his brothers and the spirit of the Holy Cross monastery, our birthplace, where ¡°Sisters of the Holy Cross monastery as pilgrimages of the world kneel down at the foot of Jesus hung on the cross.¡± Following Jesus Christ who obeyed the God¡¯s will for the salvation of humankind and was crucified on the cross with love, we first of all strive to embody ¡° the God¡¯s love revealed in the weakness of the cross through our life¡± (cf. Constitution 2; 2Cor 12,10). ¡°Through the God¡¯s power and wisdom¡± (1Cor 1, 18; 1, 24) revealed in the cross which we willingly bear God may be glorified.

Spirituality of Community

¡°Through the communal life present in the Rule we make efforts to materialize our monastic vocation¡± (Constitution 2). In our community, the house of God, we ¡®try to be the first to show respect to the other, supporting with the greatest patience one another¡¯s weakness of body or behavior, and earnestly competing in obedience to one another. No one is to pursue what she judges better for herself, but instead, what she judges better for someone else. To our fellow sisters we show the pure love of sisters¡¯ (cf. Rule 72, 4-8). Through this, we endeavor to incarnate communion of the Triune God. Our communal life is also led to be translated into the service of God and the life of solidarity.
